Young EFFoST and EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group) have collaboratively set up the EYE Mentorship Programme to support postgraduate students and early-career food scientists with networking and career development opportunities. Following the success of the first visit in 2024, the next round of mentees and their mentors returned to the Intralox/Commercial Food Sanitation facility at the Schiphol EMEA HQ in Hoofddorp.

A powerful way to pay it forward to the next generation of food industry professionals—building their passion for food safety, exposing them to different aspects of the industry, and supporting their transition from education to career.

This year’s group consisted of around 30 participants. The visit was designed especially for mentees in the final stages of their studies, preparing to move into the food industry in the near future.

The agenda for the day gave participants a broad introduction to Intralox and CFS. Janine Herman from People & Culture shared insights into Intralox’s culture and ways of working, while Suzan Atabay provided an overview of the Food Business Unit and Intralox FoodSafe solutions. A plant tour allowed our visitors to see firsthand how Intralox delivers on its promise of customer value.

Back in the CFS Institute, Claudia Baenen and David Le Meur led a hands-on activity that allowed participants to experience “positive disruption” in practice and explore how a “seek to understand” mindset can be applied broadly in the food industry as well as to individual career paths.

The mentees, mentors, and programme organizers left energized and appreciative of the time and openness of the CFS and Intralox teams, highlighting the value of engaging directly with industry professionals as they prepare to take their next steps in the food sector.
